Calling all species—men, women, dogs, cats. As long as you’re wearing a tiara you are welcome to run in the second annual Tiara Trot, a run created by New Orleans professional Janie Glade to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank and the children of Louisiana they feed. Unfortunately, one in five children in Louisiana is at risk for hunger. Second Harvest’s work is critical in turning over these numbers in our state and we can help them one step at a time—or with one giant trot.
What: Raise money for Second Harvest Food Bank
When: Returning in 2018!
Why: To help fund the Second Harvest programs listed below!
How to win: Raise the most money for Second Harvest!
We invite you to become a Tiara Trotter to support the following Second Harvest outreach programs:
Backpack Program: In South Louisiana, over 1,700 school children participate in the backpack program--an initiative designed to meet the needs of children at risk for hunger during weekends and school vacations--times when resources like free and reduced school breakfast and lunch are not available. Each week, the backpack program provides bags filled with nutritious, child-friendly foods which are placed in participating students’ backpacks. The program reaches elementary school children in 24 south Louisiana schools.
Kids Café: In January, 2012, Second Harvest Food Bank launched Kids Cafe. Currently, approximately 1,000-1,800 school children receive nutritious supper meals through nonprofit, after school enrichment programs.
Summer Feeding: The initiative provides nutritious meals to thousands of children who might otherwise go hungry in the summer months when schools are closed. In 2013, the summer feeding program provided 175,000 nutritious meals-- breakfast and lunch--to approximately 3,940 children at 63 summer camp sites.
100% of proceeds donated to Tiara Trot will go to support Second Harvest Food Bank!
